Wild Rivers

The brief called for the design of a pottery studio on a secluded site within the Wild Rivers Nature Reserve in Limpopo. The vision was to create a calm and contemplative retreat where the owner could immerse themselves in the creative process while remaining closely connected to the surrounding bushveld landscape. The design is centred on blurring the boundary between inside and outside, allowing natural light, views, and the rhythms of nature to become an integral part of the studio experience. Carefully framed openings, natural materials, and a restrained architectural language create a quiet sanctuary that encourages focus, reflection, and craftsmanship. The result is a space where making pottery becomes more than a creative activity—it becomes an experience of place, allowing the artist to work in harmony with nature and find inspiration in the tranquillity of the surrounding environment.
