DESCRIPTION
The refurbishment and revitalisation of this dilapidated estate on the Bishopscourt ridge presented an opportunity to transform the property into a vibrant and connected living space that embraces the surrounding natural landscape. Situated with breathtaking 270-degree views, stretching from Stellenbosch across False Bay to Constantia Nek, the design approach aimed to integrate the natural beauty of the surroundings into the home's interior and create a sense of openness.
To achieve this, the design focused on bringing the natural landscape from the Northern bounding green belt through a central courtyard. The central courtyard serves as a transitional space, connecting the interior of the home with the surrounding vistas. By opening up the courtyard to the connecting vistas, the design blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing the natural beauty of the landscape to become an integral part of the living experience.
The emphasis on the central courtyard as a focal point creates a sense of unity and coherence, with the surrounding landscape serving as a backdrop. This design approach not only brings nature into the heart of the home but also ensures that the connection to the sweeping views is maximized from various areas within the estate.
By embracing the surrounding landscape, the refurbished estate gains a fresh sense of openness. The design allows for the natural beauty of the site to permeate the living spaces, providing a constant visual connection with the landscape. This integration fosters a deep-rooted sense of belonging and harmony with the surroundings.
The revitalization of the estate brings new life and vibrancy to the property, transforming it into a home that celebrates its setting and offers a unique living experience. The combination of the central courtyard, the opening out to the connecting vistas, and the integration of the natural landscape create a sense of unity between the interior and exterior spaces, enhancing the overall aesthetic and providing a fresh perspective on living in harmony with the environment
